That's Dedication?

I heard on the radio the other day about some old man who'd recently passed away. A former pastor, who'd devoted his life to recording all of it in his diary. Every single bit, every single bite, every last minutiae of his day. Which, of course, was mostly taken up by writing his diary.

The story said he'd write three to five thousand words a day, typed, in two columns which he'd bind into massive volumes for the keeping. Volumes which have since been sent to an archive to be kept sealed for fifty years.

Can you imagine? The attention to detail required, if not the determination, to spend every day for years and years, recording every moment of your life? t occurs to me that I'm trying to do the same here. Maybe I don't have the dedication required to jot down every single detail of every stray thought - generally, if I stopped to do that, I'd never have the time to get anything else done. But I'm blogging, posting, about whatever topic and subject comes to my mind over the course of the day and holds my interest long enough to congeal. Some times I have a plan heading into the day, others I don't. But it's a record, a time capsule, frozen in the unstable amber of the digital world. Sealed away by the relentless rush towards the future. Gone, but not forgotten.

I'm not sure if I'll be doing this in fifty years' time. I'm not even certain it'll be worth re-reading then by anyone, least of all me. But I do know that I'd like to try.
