The Purge Related Issue

Tangential to the whole prosecutor scandal is what precipitated it in the first place. Namely, the fact that the fired prosecutors were in hot water with Republican operatives for not adequately pursing charges of voter fraud.

As you can see in this piece by Mr. Waldman and Mr. Levitt, the Republicans like to cry "voter fraud" because it's a useful smoke screen. It covers their legitimate attempts at suppressing voter turnout by muddying the waters and placing everything in doubt. But, apparently, they've been screaming about the shadows on the wall for so long they forgot that they were the ones casting them - and cogs in the machinery wanted action taken when there were no actual cases to be made.

Fortunately, it seems that there's still some semblance of integrity among the Justice Department because now, officials are coming forward. This is somewhat of a separate issue from what the president knew and when but no less important.
