NBA: Those Sounds You Hear Are the Marketers Slitting Their Wrists

Well, so much for the Oden-Durant debate. Because it's pretty clear which one you should have picked when the other can't even make it on the court. Oden missed a big chunk of the OSU season with an injury. Oden missed the summer league with an ailment. And, now, thanks to an exploratory surgery that turned into a rescue expedition, he's going to be out for the entire season. Just, wow.

Ya. Although, you know, Stoudemire came back from microfracture surgery so it's possible he'll become productive in a year or three. But Oden is definitely the dreaded "Injury Prone" now. Once I heard about his one leg longer than the other I kinda figured something like this was in the cards although not quite this early. I guessed he'd have a season or two of promise before flaring out. It's even worse because this is Portland it happened to. It's Sam Bowie, another big man who's body just couldn't handle the stress, all over again.

I should probably flag the column by Mr. Simmons for attention, too. The gist is as follows, "This is a horrible, shocking event and only goes to prove I was right about picking Durant in the first place." Which, good god, man, the horse is dead you can stop flogging it now. But his point about Oden walking like a 50 year old being a bad, bad sign is a good one.
