Guild Wars: The Monkeys Strike Back!

It's the weekend and you know what that means. Another randomly selected bonus to temp people into playing. This weekend it involves GvG play. You'll get double faction and champ points through your tender guild on guild moments starting, well, probably a few hours ago by the time I get around to posting this up until Sunday night.

Again, I say ho hum. Double champ points are nice, if you can earn them. The ranking needed to start earning them has gone way down from when they were first introduced but it's still relatively high. You need 1200 rating for your guild which means you have to have won at least a little bit before hand. So, it's really a bonus only for the handful of people who are already playing GvG at a mediocre level. The prospect of another rank to display isn't exactly going to tempt a guild hanging around the fringes of the 1.2k mark to make a push up the ladder. Or someone who's been wanting to get into GvG to make that leap. Which is really the opportunity a GvG weekend event should be pursuing.

As for the faction, I don't know about you but I'm capped out. I've been capped out for a long, long time. I don't have anything more to unlock, I don't have a problem getting enough faction to earn tokens regularly, and I have absolutely no use for Balthazar points at the moment. And I haven't been playing PvP for months. The people who have are probably even more apathetic about the prospect of earning more. And GvG is complex enough, difficult enough to get into and excel at, that it's not really a place for the people who do need Faction to come and try to farm it. They're just going to become sources of faction for the people who are earning the champ points, get frustrated with the whole thing, and leave.

Which is the exact opposite of the desired result here. There's a need to draw people from other formats into GvG. But that's really not what's going on here. Instead, you're getting a random bonus that's rewarding the people already playing. What a waste.
