E.J. Dionne rails against the corporate welfare queens.

Fairness is the grit of dirt buried inside of the metaphorical pearl that is the modern progressive argument.

But the pearl itself is that we're stronger together than we are when we're apart. That we must band together and bind ourselves in an equitable social contract or else we will be torn apart. The government that results is there to keep bad things from happening to you. And that's okay because that government is made up of, responsive, and ultimately responsible to you.
