Guild Wars: Double Reward Points?!
The dart throwing monkeys normally caged in the ANet basement have struck again. This weekend, to get me spending my time playing a video game instead of enjoying the fading summer weather by strolling in the increasingly crisp air, watching as the foliage turns, and possibly visiting a cidermill, the incentive is doubled reward points. Those are the points handed out for playing in the Automated tournies, of course, either GvG ofr HvH. And one of the many crippling missteps in the whole AT system.
I think I'm not going to cancel that date for cider and apple dusted crullers just yet. I wouldn't touch the Hero Battles with a ten foot pole at this point. At least, not until they do something about the Sins running rampant through 4-person play. A move the developers seem unwilling to make. As for GvG, well, I'd need to find a guild to play with. And the idea of going through the application and feeling out process, again, is one of the main reasons I'm not playing PvP at the moment. Just way too much work for too little reward at this point.
And that's even assuming they've done away with the ridiculous waiting period for new guild members by now. If not, even if I started crawling on bended knees to whomever would take me, I'd still have to sit and cool my heels for well past this weekend. Even if I did jump those hurdles, what would it be for? I'm already UAX, I've got like 20 skills left to get from GW:EN which I don't even own and that's it, and I could care less about the fancy skins I could sink my points into. Not that I don't like looking fly while I'm kicking or getting kicked in the ass but the sad truth is I think most of the high-end stuff is incredibly ugly looking - I prefer the simple, clean looks of the starter gear that I already have. So, yeah, this weekend might appeal to some people but it's not for me.

RP are a pain in the ass, but every little bit gets me closer to the hot stuff - mes fow, 15k druid's, etc.
I'll probably be "borrowing" my roomie's computer this weekend.
Amen - I hate to beat a dead donkey, but GW is pretty much only "worth" playing for the PvE content at this point. I toss in the exception to the rule going back to one of your previous posts about earning PvE rewards for doing PvP.
Alliance Battles are what I've been doing occasionally, >(and dreadfully), to earn Luxon faction points > to donate to the guild's faction > to raise/gain my Luxon Supporter Title > to be able to access the Luxon PvE skills.
Yeah, it is a lot of damn work... But there are some pretty fantabulous PvE skills to be had, to again, just bump up my PvE-game another notch - Ka-Ching!
I'm counting the days until GW2 and world vs world pve... As a retired DAOC vet, it will certainly be a breath of fresh air to see PvP on a large scale here within the game we've come to know and love/hate.
That donkey needs to be beaten, though. If only pour encourage les autres.
Lemming sez crazy stuff in a sad attempt to make his life seem less meaningless.
More power to you, then. Be sure to hide your roommates body well after you bludgeon him to death in order to "borrow" his comp, though.
I can certainly sympathize, it's just I tend to churn through my PvP slots too much to keep any of that stuff around since it's destroyed whenever you delete, so it rankles. The Mesmer ecto armor doesn't look too bad, actually. Most Mesmer stuff doesn't and I suppose I should look more carefully through all the options before I write them all off. Because when I say all the upgrades are worthless to me, I'm talking about things like the Sin armor which goes from ninja cool to looking like Shredder to looking like something you clean rare, ocean-bottom dwelling fish with as it gets more rare and costly. Or Elementalist "armor" about which the less said the better. I have a female ele fetish and I just want to wear something that doesn't look like a glorrified stripper's outfit.
As for the Druid armor, well, all I can say is I hope you role with a male model.

Ugh, yeah, title track grinding. Don't remind me. There's another rant I have to launch one of these days. I've mostly been doing Sunspear because it's easier but I dread the day when I'll need to get into the flow of pleasing the pirates or goths for whichever icon is cooler.
Brief preview of a title grind rant, though: the PvE-only skills are, hands down, the worst addition to the game in a long, long time. Just absolutely the worst way to build on the title system. Not that I haven't rushed out to grab several and am now working to title up to get them to playable status but that's the problem right there. They're too good, if you don't have some of them you're playing with one hand behind your back - I mean, can you even run a Paragon without some of those shouts these days? And they require you to invest massive amounts of time to make them work. It's something to reward the faithful, the people who've been playing all along, but for someone like me who only has a few hours a week to spend playing, it just pushes you right out of the game.
But, in response, it's not the kind of PvE reward I'm looking for because a) it rewards people who just log sheer hours over those who don't. And b) you can get those rep points just as easier if not more so in PvE. Unless things have drastically changed the most optimal way of getting those points was to just repeat the same few quests over and over for thousands of points each hour (Of course you need hundreds of thousands of points, but at least the faction fun bucks are account wide.). You can get those rewards another way by ostensibly doing something you enjoy (Not that I'd really call AB something to "enjoy" at this point. It's more like making out with a hot girl and finding out she's your long-lost sister who happens to be an adult film star.) which is nice and definitely something the game needs. But it fails on the "exclusive" part of my lofty requirements. It provides no reason for someone who's solely devoted to PvE to start playing PvP. They can just keep doing what they're doing and get the same rewards.

I will have to part ways with you there. Large scale PvP battles sound like they're going to involve horribly random masses of people which should soon devolve into slamming into each other in one huge scrum in the middle of the map. Just a few steps up from mindless button mashing, for me. It's the small scale tactical battles between teams that I actually enjoy. Not running around trying to be the best at ganking the easy targets. But, then, GW2 as a whole sounds to me like a soulsucking vortex which only exists to make fun of the game I once enjoyed. So, variable mileage and all that.
I deleted all my pves except for my warrior and an ele that I made later on, because I'd rather make them look pretty with RP than spend >9000 plat and 32425534656 hours making pretty pvp-ready pves. It's enough of a pain to keep my warrior adequately-equipped. :|
Of course I'm talking about a female ranger. ;)
I'm really not enamored of title grind for EotN armors. If the objective was, as often suggested, to prevent people from running through to obtain armors, a significantly lower title requirement would have sufficed, instead of requiring another 5 hours of grind after the completion of the storyline.
Of course, I'm somewhat biased, as I'm planning on buying spectacles for both my pves. :/
I never delete my characters. Just can't do it. I'd rather just buy another slot. I have six PvE characters at the moment. All the melee classes, a Ranger, an Ele, and the Monk who was a mule. I should probably cut back to, like, four or five but I just can't do it even though I hardly ever use the expansion characters anymore. I figure I'd get by with my Warrior, my Ranger, my Ele, and my Monk.
Then, if it didn't involve plodding through the Nightfall campaign again (Why, no, I don't want to grind out 5k more Sunspear points with my mouse and pestle before I can advance, thank you very much. You spearfuckers can save your own damn world.) I could start up a Paragon. They really need a "start max level character" button. Of course, even after I finished leveling I'd have to crank out the rep points to get the PvE-only goods. So, yeah.
Then again, I spotted Critical Agility the other day and gave my Sin a whirl for the first time in forever. It was fun. Reminded me just why I liked that character. Like being able to switch between the different flavors and roles as the mood strikes me.
Of course I'm talking about a female ranger
Lara Croft principle strikes again.
But...the 15k female Druid's armor? The one that's like a flower child from Woodstalk? With those huge, triangular shoulder pads that are straight out of Legends or some early DnD module? I mean, it's nothing but bits of stick glued onto the female form with mud and...I'm beginning to see the appeal now.
Bleh, still pass here. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I prefer to send my characters into mortal combat with little more than pasties over their areolae and a bit of duct tape over their bajingos.
My female Ranger, by the way, has the 1.5k Druids from way back in the pre-inscription day and I'm still happy with it.
Of course, the real question is....pigtails?
Spectacles
We used to have a word for people who like that kind of thing. A dirty word. And that word is roleplayers.
What can I say? I like the glasses look, and as long as it isn't costing me any advantage in pvp, I'd wear them.
As for ranger armor, 15k druid's wasn't the only set that I had on my pve, but it's certainly the one I'd buy most. I'm not complaining about having a sexy character on obs mode. ;o
Lemming likes the four-eyed look
I'd hand you a shovel but I think you're digging yourself deeper quite well enough as it is.
Lemming has no taste in armor and sez, "I'm not complaining about having a sexy character on obs mode."
Yes, but my point is that the 15k Druid armor isn't sexy. It's like a Hula dancer from the Pacific Northwest. It's like something Bjork would wear. It's not attractive, it's ridiculous.
Again, to me and apparently me alone but they'd have to pay me points to get me to wear that thing.
